Disabled Persons Housing Services The DPHS is a specialist housing service, developed to meet the needs of adults, young people and children with physical disabilities or complex health needs, irrespective of income, age and housing tenure. When you register on Homehunter, the DPHS will write to you with a self-assessment form, so you can provide details of your health/disability. Home visits are available to assist housebound clients. If you are supported, the DPHS aims to assist each client through housing options available, helping to organise applications for adaptations where required, to achieve a long term housing solution. You should still bid on Homehunter to increase your chances of being successfully rehoused. If you are not supported, you are still a Homehunter member and available to bid for properties. Disabled Persons Housing Services - Further Info As a DPHS client you are encouraged to use Homehunter to find your home, although the DPHS will also try to locate property on your behalf. Incommunities and the DPHS reserve the right to refuse bids where clients are bidding for inappropriate accommodation to meet their needs. All applicants should not presume that adaptations may be carried out at their new home. Incommunities requires an Occupational Therapist to assess you first and it is on their recommendation that works may or may not be carried out. If in doubt, please contact the DPHS for advice. Categories of support: 1. Hospital Bed Release: Applicants are referred direct from Hospitals because their home is no longer suitable for them to return to. Priority card awarded. 2. Disability Housing Register: Applicants needing adapted accommodation. No priority card awarded. 3. Ground Floor support: Older applicants needing assistance with Homehunter to find linked or sheltered accommodation. No priority card awarded. 4. Withdrawal of support: Support may be withdrawn if multiple reasonable offers have been made or if applicants are only wishing to look at specific properties. Clients will be notified in writing and have the right of appeal.
